Well ... Day 2 is in the books and it definately wasn't easy the first 2:00 out on the road. With fatigue in the legs and a little trepidation on the brain. It wasn't much fun for everybody to roll out this morning into a 30mph headwinds just to reach the point to begin dealing with challenge 1 of the day. Todays challenge was a timed climb up the not so easy RockPile Rd. One of the pictures above is on Rock Pile Rd ... and something that has been familiar development over the last two days. John Lander at 65 years old has found the fountain of youth and some confidence taking great turns at the front and he really dug in on the climb today.
The group (above huddled around one of their favorite places, the support vehicle) has really come together over the last two days and doing things they might not have thought they would have exceled at doing a few days ago. They all even garnered up the energy as we split them in two and tested the group dynamics with a little Team Time Trial challenge near the end of todays ride.
With everyone doing so well, and the group dynamics coming together, it's really hard to single people out for doing great things. BUT ... kudos go out to Rand Libberton who came to the front today to take some nice, smooth pulls into the nasty headwind and kept lots of folks safe. He also did a double loop of todays run to take bonus points and "camper of the day". (photo above of Rand and his fan club as he finishes loop 2) of In 48 hours Rand has gone from not being so confident of his training to realizing he has a nice platform of fitness to take into his IM Brazil preps. "Good on ya Rand"
All for now ...
