September means alot of things as the season changes ... preparations for World Championships across the globe, late season races for fun and peaking, planning for 2008, and of course my other love ... Futbal, or soccer as we call it here! For some reason Fall always reminds me of my younger high school days where I had Friday soccer match and a sleep in Saturday morning followed by cereal and cartoons! One of my favorite cartoons was Hong Kong Phooey. The cool part is that he was a just a regular janitor type guy (well, dog) who could transform himself into a super hero ... kind of like alot of age group athletes who transform themselves from moms, dads, and working people by day into endurance super heroes by night. (or sometimes early in the morning :)
Speaking of super heroes we had some great performances over the last couple weeks:
- Chuck Sloan ...
* Won the Lake Degray Sprint Triathlon as a final tune up and to gain some fitness for the ITU World Championship in Germany
* At the ITU World Championships this past weekend Chuck overcame a tough swim to bike and run himself into the top 15 overall (14th). Chuck ended up as the third American and had the fastest run split fo the day. Not bad for a guy who is only in his second year of triathlon! Good on ya Chuck
- Dana Chance ...
* Dana executed an unbelievable race to finish 7th in her age group AND 27th overall female at Ironman Canada! Dana not only even split the marathon (again, great race execution) but she ran almost 19 minutes faster than last year and was faster overall on a tougher day than 2006. After a rest Dana will start preparing for the Ironman 70.3 World Championhips in November.
For Rob's (Dana's husband) race report check over at http://www.robchancesworld.blogspot.com/
More races to follow this weekend at Big Kahuna and the Ukiah Triathlon.
My Best ... DL
