Hard to believe June is here but with all the results and racing going on one could only guess the time of year. Last weekend the Vineman crew produced a fun race called the Vineman Showdown at Sundown. This race was unique in that it started @ 5pm on a Saturday evening and it was a "super sprint" type of format. It was such a nice change from the early mornings and big distance and brought me back to the roots of the sport; Fun, green grass, big trees, fast racing and wonderful atmosphere. Immediately above is a great picture of the 1/4 mile swim in San Pablo Bay! The other picture you see is of Jen who had been working with and coaching a group of about 15 beginners for the event with the help of Fleet Feet Sports. The entire group was successful and Jen had a blast in the process. Jen has become quite good at working with these "newbies" and introducing them into the endurance lifestyle!
In the past few weeks there have been a number of great performances at the races:
- Amanda Erwin followed up her great early season performances with a terrific race at Memphis in May finishing 2nd in her age group and 12th overall!
- Chuck Sloan ripped a 32 minute 10k off the bike at Memphis in May on his way to an age group win and 5th place OVERALL!
- Dana Chance continued her great season with a super race at Hawaii Ironman 70.3 finishing 7th in the REALLY strong 35-39 age group.
- David Erlich kicked the season off by escaping from Alcatraz last weekend. Good to have you back at it Big D!
- John Lander brought home an age group win at the always tough Auburn International Triathlon.
- Layne Scoggins picked up an age group third place at the Auburn International Triathlon and helped the Tri-Dogs bring home the team trophy at the Showdown race.
- Odessa Schexnaydre started off her triathlon season with an age group third place at Auburn international.
- Phil Johnson came out of his 2 year hibernation to kick off the season at Auburn ... good to have you out rolling again Phil! Phil also was part of that winning team at the Showdown race as well.
- Rand Libberton took on Ironmn Brazil and brought home a 1 hour + personal best at the ironman distance. Rand's patience and persistence in training was well rewarded. VERY happy for you Rand!
- Steve McCann decided to take on the Worlds Toughest half ironman distance race at Auburn and came out for the better. Well done Steve O ... always a tough course to conquer!
Stay fit, stay healthy, and keep it rolling!
